Do You Need a Root Canal?
Before treatment, Dr. O’Dell will closely examine your tooth, using digital x-rays and a visual inspection. If he determines that you are a candidate for root canal therapy, he will numb your tooth, and create a small access chamber in the top of the tooth. Through this chamber, he will remove all bacteria and pulp tissue from inside your tooth. He will also clean and reshape your root canals. If needed, he will use an antibacterial solution to treat any remaining signs of infection.
When this process is complete, Dr. O’Dell will fill your tooth and root canals with a soft rubber compound called gutta percha. Then he will take impressions of your tooth. He will send the impressions and dental crown design specifications to our trusted dental lab, where technicians will custom-create a dental crown. Because we have worked with the same lab for nearly 30 years, we know that their work is beautiful and natural looking. While you wait, Dr. O’Dell will supply a temporary restoration. Finally, when the final restoration is finished, he will attach the crown. Although you may experience some slight sensitivity, you will typically enjoy complete dental functionality after your second visit.
Focused on Your Comfort
Many patients assume that their root canal therapy will be highly unpleasant. In actuality, the treatment involves minimal discomfort. Dr. O’Dell offers compassionate care and gentle techniques to ensure that you remain comfortable throughout your treatment. Before beginning the procedure, he will numb your tooth using local anesthesia. Under its effect, you will typically feel little more than slight pressure. However, like many patients, you may still feel nervous about your treatment. If so, you may benefit from nitrous oxide or oral sedation. At your initial consultation, Dr. O’Dell will explain these options and help you choose the one that is right for you.
